An email that was sent out to the Chabad community in Montreal, Canada, has warned locals about a family that is posing as religious Jews in a possible effort to proselytize.
“You may have noticed that a family that dresses as observant Jews has moved into the neighborhood a few months ago,” an educator wrote on Thursday.
He said that the father wears a yarmulke, tzizis and has a beard, while his wife wears a tichel. Their children dress accordingly as well.
“The father and the boy have engaged in discussions with children and adult members of the community,” he said, adding that “while they do not claim to be Jewish, they strongly praise Jewish ways and disclaim Christianity.
“However, it has been determined from talking to them that they belong to a messianic group that likely aims to expose (and possibly attract) Yidden to Christianity רח”ל, using false references from Tanach,” he warned.
The educator advised the public to keep a distance from this family. “Do not engage them in a discussion or debate; that is all that they would be looking for. Likewise, zealous acts can be counterproductive.”
Last year, COLlive.com reported that a frum-looking couple moved to a Jewish neighborhood in Chicago and were exposed as Christians with the mission to influence others. They have since left.

Those people, like my family was decades ago, are looking to get closer, and clearly they don’t have anybody to guide them. Don’t turn them away, invite them in! They’re most likely looking for an authority figure that can help them along with an-already begun process. Establish clear rules and guidelines, and let them attend a few classes without the stigma of being “from that background”. Be their friends and expand to make space for these types of people, teach them about… Read more »
Thats very nice, but not for someone with the agenda to expose you to Christianity.
We are not supposed to engage in conversations with them- not from a mean standpoint though.
I for one do not want these ideas in my head, no matter how strong my Yiddishkeit is.
Invite in anyone whos mission is not to badly influence you and your children R”L.
Thank you to the Rabanim for making this public and thank you to COL for posting.
