On Thursday night, the eve of Rosh Chodesh Adar, members of the Chabad community in Montreal, Canada, gathered a Siyum Harambam celebration at the Shomrim Laboker shul. The event was attended by prominent rabbinic figures.
The event was emceed by Rabbi Shmuel Kramer, Menahel Gashmi of Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch, and included a video of the Rebbe speaking about the importance of learning Rambam daily.
The Siyum was done by Rabbi Berel Bell, dayan of the Chabad community and member of the Vaad Ha’ir of Montreal. The haschalah – beginning the new cycle was done by Rabbi David Raphael Banon, rov of the Laval community, Chabad community and member of the Vaad Ha’ir of Montreal.
Speakers included Rabbi Belzer Dayan Rabbi Mordechai Galitzky and community member R’ Yosef Yitzchok Sherf who spoke about her personal journey of learning Rambam.
Present were also Rabbi Berel Mochkin, Head Shliach of Montreal; Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Leibel Kaplan; and Rabbi Moshe Stern, rav of the Tze’irei Dat V’Da’at community and maggid shiur of the Montreal Yeshiva.
The keynote speaker was Rabbi Heschel Greenberg, Chabad Shliach and Director of the Jewish Discovery Center in Buffalo, New York, who is a noted author. He delivered a powerful speech on the significance of Rambam’s teachings and their deep connection to the Rebbe.
Following the formal event, many participants remained for a farbrengen with Rabbi Greenberg, discussing the impact of learning Rambam and celebrating the Siyum late into the night.
