When a new baby joins the family, it’s a big stress on everyone, but none so much as the mother who now spends her days and nights entirely occupied with caring for her new little one.
It’s an overwhelming job. For a first-time mother, there’s so much to learn about baby care and feeding. For a mother with other children, she has the tricky task of balancing the responsibility of the new baby as well as the older ones. It’s no small wonder that during this time mothers themselves often feel neglected.
And yet, this is a crucial time for the mother to receive good nourishment, good rest and positive encouragement from those around her.
Remember, good care for a mother will always equal good care for her children.
40 years ago the Rebbe knew that this was so important to Jewish families and mothers. The Shifra and Puah initiative first began in Kfar Chabad where the Rebbe made sure that the organizers would not distinguish between one family or another. There was to be no consideration of financial situation, family connections, or whether this was the first child or seventh!
The program was not to discriminate between any women and make sure that all mothers were treated with equal care and support.
When Shifra and Puah was first initiated in Crown Heights, it was mainly to serve the women who were living without parents in the area that could support them.
A week’s worth of breakfasts were delivered directly to the new mother; beautifully presented and prepared with the highest standards of kashrus.
Now, in honor of the 40th anniversary of Shifra and Puah’s initiation, Crown Heights Junior Nshei is teaming up with Shifra and Puah to create a larger organization that can service all women in Crown Heights without distinction, as the Rebbe originally envisioned it.
From now on, every mother in Crown Heights will be qualified to receive Shifra and Puah breakfasts, no matter what her situation is.
Now is a great a opportunity to be a part of this great organization.
Shifra and Puah annual dinner is coming up.
You can show your support by purchasing raffle tickets and have a chance to win a rare $20 bill given by the Rebbe.

This is nunber 2 again I’m a bit confused by your comment as I stated previously I had zero family zero in laws and zero mother helping out to be flatly told that sorry we can’t help our first priority is Israelis is a slap in the face. I had plenty of friends who did have help but yet you gave them when a few people called on my behalf all were given the same response no too busy. So like I said again if you are going to be colllectiong money from Americans like myself make sure we also… Read more »
I am so grateful to Shifra and Push. They made the two weeks after I had the baby so much easier. I looked forward each morning to receiving their breakfast. They go above and beyond, to make the breakfast tasty and beautiful. Before Shabbos they even sent a cake!! Thank you to all the special women who are part of this organization!
or adopt a bubbie, or adopt a new attitude..hatzlacha on your good work!
Sorry you feel this way. We never turned anyone asked away aspacialy if you do not have a family here. It can be that sometimes we have to give one week if it is very busy week and you have a family around,
The breakfasts are so beautiful and generous, arriving at the perfect time of day, after the morning rush in the house is over. Tizku Lmitzvos, all you special ladies who are involved.
Please make sure you dont turn people away i was devasted when i was turned away i have no family and a few people called and were simply told no. The reason was that it was a busy period and when it was suggested that instead of giving the 2 weeks they should offer 1 week it was still refused. I did feel discriminated against and was very hurt
Thank you Shifra and Push I will always be grateful to you for being so kind and providing breakfast for the kimpitur
