Mitzvah Tank USA is a groundbreaking initiative that helps Chabad on Campus and local Chabad communities transform ordinary vehicles into fully functional Mitzvah Tanks. This project bridges the gap between inspiration and implementation by offering guidance and resources to create these iconic vehicles at an affordable cost.
When members of the Chabad community in New Haven decided to build a Mitzvah Tank, they discovered how expensive the process could be. That’s when the idea was born: transform a basic Ford E450 van into a Mitzvah Tank.
“This way, we could spread the Rebbe’s message in style,” they explained. “With the right design and wrapping, you can turn your van into a stylish and functional Mitzvah Tank that will make heads turn and hearts open!” By repurposing vans or minivans already owned by local residents, Mitzvah Tank USA makes customization significantly more affordable without compromising quality or impact.
What We Provide
Mitzvah Tank USA acts as a Shadchan for communities aspiring to build a Mitzvah Tank, but here’s the twist—we don’t charge for our services! Our team provides all the contacts and resources needed to build your Mitzvah Tank from A-Z.
What We Don’t Provide
While we assist with every aspect of the process, funding is not included. Communities are responsible for raising their own budgets to bring their vision to life.
Expected Budget
Building a Mitzvah Tank can cost between $30,000 and $60,000, depending on the level of customization. Here’s a rough breakdown of expenses:
Vehicle Cost: $10,000 – $20,000
Transporting the Vehicle: ~$1,000
Designer for Wrap: $1,500
Wrapping the Vehicle: $3,500 – $8,000
Interior Designer: $1,500
Interior Modifications: $15,000 – $30,000 (varies significantly based on needs; basic setups cost less)
Registration: ~$1,000
Insurance: $3,000 – $8,000
Impact So Far
To date, Mitzvah Tank USA has successfully completed five Mitzvah Tanks, and each one has become a beacon of light and connection within its community. This initiative continues to empower Chabad centers to bring the Rebbe’s message to the streets, one van at a time.
Exciting New Project
In addition to the practical work of building Mitzvah Tanks, we’re thrilled to announce the release of a new children’s book, The Mitzvah Tank Lights Up the City! This beautifully illustrated story introduces young readers to the magic of the Mitzvah Tank and its mission to bring joy and mitzvahs to every corner of the community.
