It says in the article that the family wants the place where he was found to be kept private.

IT SEEMS TO ME THAT WITH HIS SITUATION HIS MEDICAL SCHOOL WAS GETTING TOO MUCH FOR HIM BUT FELT THAT HE MUST GO ON BECAUSE THIS IS WHAT HIS PARENTS WANT REGARDLESS OF WHETHER HE WANTS TO DO THIS GRUELING PROGRAM OR NOT. WHICH MEANS THAT HE IS CAPABLE OF DOING THIS AGAIN IF THEY DON’T LET UP ON HIM. AND WHY WERE THEY WORRIED THAT HE MIGHT BE IN CROWN HEIGHTS? IS IT SUCH A DANGEROUS PLACE????

Take your two sense and put it in the pushka! At least youll be doing a mitzva with it because you make no sense right now, and I dont know where you get so creative to make up such crazy ideas.

Did you not read the end of the article where it says the family did NOT provide more information on where he was found and asked for privacy at this time.
Can you not respect a fellow yids request for privacy during an already difficult situation they went through? You have to make it harder for them by talking more loshon hara! What difference will it make to your life by knowing all the details? Just thank hashem that BH he was found safe! Thats really all that matters.
Moshiach now!

According to what I understand he came home on his own Sometime this evening other than that no one is saying anything

With all due respect, when their “boy” was nowhere to be found for whatever reason, the family wanted everyone to be involved in their story and help
Lots of good concerned people got involved by doing something extra like tehilim or tzdakah or even go out there and spend time searching
Now that he was found safe and sound the family suddenly want privacy
At the very least they should explain where he was found if not provide an explanation why he resorted to do this

By going public with this it became the business of everyone who was concerned and worried about him. I think it’s fair to ask and to provide some type of information.

Honestly, go live your life. No one owes you anything. If you do a mitzvah just let it be a mitzvah without an ulterior motive.

I davened to Hashem, saying that you Hashem know where he is I knew Hashem was able to see him at the moment of my tefillah. I asked Hashem to return him to his family. Hashem did, we all did our job saying our tefillah. Now our job is done, it is now the job of the famy to be all together and do the rest. While I can u understand that we may all want to know what happened, we must understand we did what we were suppose to do as Jews, daven… May Hashems bless all of you… Read more »

Like other folks who sent in their comments, I agree that the family must have their privacy. The main thing is that the young man is at home safe & sound.

This is public knowledge.

Close your eyes and imagine it was your son who went missing. For 6 days you didn’t know he was alive or dead. You were desperate. You begged your fellow hidden to help you. Then your son came home ok. Can you imagine your relief and anguish all at the same time. You would be beyond spent and drained.

now ask yourself this….. WOULDN’T YOU WANT SOME PRIVACY???

Shame on you for expecting answers.

Bottom line….You involve the public , you owe it to the public. Besides its good to know for future situations how this all ended and where he was hiding out.

As a medical student myself, yes the work is absolutely grueling! AND my parents, friends, family etc do not push me. Why are you assuming his parents are at fault? Can a man not want to be a doc without parents nagging? Can it not be his own dream? 95% of medical students are there because they WANT to be there. I’d guess it’s more likely he’s in the 95% than the 5%.

In general, we as a society have developed this need to know everything. Partly because we are fed information by the media 24/7 and partly because it is human nature. But it is a wonderful choice of a midda to work on. It helps no one! It prevents the gossiper from focusing on their own life and facing their issues head on. And of course, it hurts the person about who is being talked about. No one likes being pitied or discussed as a news story. A person who went through something difficult I.e. an ill family member, a divorce,… Read more »

Message from Yossi's parents

Yossi’s parents, Wendy and Alan Gerson, asked to share the following message: Dear Family, Friends, Neighbors, and Complete Strangers Who Are Now Our Friends, AMUSH Over the course of these harrowing days, thousands of people have shared our plight in the most personal way. Now that this episode has been so swiftly and miraculously resolved, we’d like to share some of the background behind the story. One of Yossi’s most passionately held ideals is Achdus. It’s a concept that he lives; a concept that he’s discussed with us countless times, particularly over recent weeks. These past few months have been… Read more »

Usually when someone goes missing and it is all over the media, and the public tried to help in finding this person. then the public has the right to ask what happened to him.

it is not your “right” to know what happened, regardless of the fact that the story went public. The family owes you a thank you and that is it. which is what they did. entitled much? get a life!!!

Privacy is a modern human and Torah right

A family was rightfully distraught and the Jewish community generously took responsibility of its fellow Jew, as the Torah tells us to. This does not mean that they owe us an explanation, nor should this vulnerable young man – who may feel embarrassed and exposed at all this publicity – be subjected to more scrutiny or judgement chas ve shalom. In fact, guarding privacy is central to Torah too. I encourage us to ask ourselves why some of us want, nay demand, explanation as to where he was and why he disappeared etc. Is it our genuine concern and a… Read more »

We had Yossi in mind while saying tehillim on Shabbos, and checked the news immediately after. BH BH. The family should know that people were mispallel throughout the country. We continue to doven that he and his refined family should have menuchas nefesh. And that Moshiach should come tonight.

To those who exerted efforts to find him- did u search for him because you needed to know where he is or because you wanted him to be found.
I was definitely curious about the details and extremely impressed with his parents letter. But let’s give everyone some breathing space that we owe them!

Number 15 was joking! Loosten up a bit people!
He is home safe and the family said thank you. I feel very happy that he is home safe and that the family owes me nothing! I said Tehilim because that is my OBLIGATION as a Jew.

I kept my eyes open because the public was asked to help I even said an extra kapital tehilim so now I feel entitled to all the private details that are none of my business.

It is so interesting that the note from the family talking about their experience and the return of their child (even though he is grown he will always be their kid) did not stem the conversation about the desire to know. I was touched by what they shared and how open and authentically they shared their experience of love and support from so many – not only in their community but also from others. I am so grateful that he is home and wish him the best as he moves forward from this challenging experience. Sending love and good thoughts… Read more »

Thank you Hashem for this tremendous miracle!

I have been following this story and prayed with all my heart for the safe return of this young man. We all were given a chance to pray for a person we might or might not know. That was our mitzvah. We are not entitled to know private information regarding someone else’s private life. It’s so sad to read some of the posts. Let the family heal. I have never met this family but heard only the greatest things about them. They were the messenger of Hashem to give everyone a chance to do a mitzvah and pass a test… Read more »
