After 241 days in the hospital, Rabbi Yudi Dukes, who has miraculously survived a fierce battle with COVID 19, has been released from the hospital today and is heading home to his family.
After 8 months, Dukes has made a historic recovery after being one of the longest hospitalized COVID patients in the world.
Friends and family cheered as Yudi Dukes headed out of the hospital, after many weeks in the ICU, nine weeks on an ECMO, and months of treatments and complications, as well as weeks in rehab.
He was emotionally greeted by his wife Sarah and two of his 6 children.
At times the situation seemed hopelessly grim, and multiple surgeries and treatments were needed. Yet, neither Yudi nor Sarah ever lost hope.
For many, Yudi’s progress was as closely followed as if he was part of the family. Every step forward was celebrated, every setback inspiring more davening and mitzvos. Yudi’s words of inspiration were widely shared on community Whatsapp chats with family and friends, with thousands eagerly awaiting more good news.
