On Tuesday, Rosh Chodesh Elul / 03 September, the Sandton Convention Center, South Africa’s most esteemed venue, was abuzz with energy as around 1000 guests gathered for the annual Chabad House Miracle Drive Dinner. The event featured a captivating lineup of world-class entertainment and significant figures, including Mr. Gayton McKenzie, South Africa’s Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture.
Mr. McKenzie, known for his strong pro-Israel stance, delivered an impactful speech, shedding light on the often-unseen support for the Jewish community and Israel within South Africa. He confirmed that there is much more support behind the scenes than most people know. His address also included a touching personal story about one woman whose kindness and dedication changed his life during a period of hardship. Mr. McKenzie’s speech reaffirmed his reputation as an outspoken friend of Israel during challenging times.
Rabbi Dovid Masinter, another highlight of the evening, launched Chabad House Johannesburg’s new “Modeh Ani” campaign, an initiative aimed at encouraging every Jewish person in South Africa to learn and recite the Modeh Ani prayer daily.

This campaign is part of the broader “Give Prayer a Chance” program, which promotes spiritual engagement and connection through prayer.
It will be followed by a campaign to get people to learn the Essence of Chassidus – Inyonai Toras Hachidus.
In addition, Rabbi Masinter introduced the innovative “Kindness Lab,” a collaboration with South Africa’s renowned Henley Business School. This program will offer courses on the role of kindness in the workplace and its positive impact on productivity. Graduates of the course will receive a diploma in kindness, furthering the mission to infuse empathy and understanding into the business world. This is inspired by the Rebbes message “Moshiach is about to come all that is needed is increased acts of goodness and kindness.”
The Moshiach awareness campaign was also highlighted. The Rebbe said that it is our obligation to publicize to the world that Moshiach is about to reveal himself.
The evening showcased the synergy between culture, community, and leadership, leaving attendees inspired and united in purpose.
Rabbi Michael Katz opened the evening.
Rabbi Mendel Lipskar shared the Rebbe’s inspiration and direction for each and every one of us.
Rabbi Ari Kievman saying a blessing for the evening.

Rabbi Masinter, your Modeh Ani and goodness in the workplace campaigns are amazing.
As the Rebbe always said, each Jew has the potential to change the word with his own two hands. Don’t for one second underestimate your ability.
Good job South Africa!
Moshiach now!
