Rabbi Sholom and Rivka Galperin and their children have been appointed as the Chabad Shluchim to Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
The Galperins will serve the local Jewish population of about 1500 as well as more than 100 Jewish students at the University of Windsor.
Rabbi Galperin serves as the rabbi of Congregation Shaarey Zedek of Windsor, the oldest Orthodox Jewish congregation in the city which was founded in 1893.
The Galperins were appointed to the Chabad post by Rabbi Berel Shemtov, the Head Shliach to Michigan.
Windsor is the southernmost city in Canada and is located south of Detroit with the Detroit River separating them. In Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch’s geographical map of Shlichus territory, Windsor is considered Michigan’s responsibility.
Rivkele, bh you and your family look great. Much hatzlacha with your new position!
Its always been under Michigan.
More criticism is unnecessary.
I wouldn’t ask questions on the merkos system which has been guided by the Rebbe for years.
For points: closest shlichus from Windsor in Canada: over an hour. Distance from Detroit to Windsor: 400 ft.
Funny how according to Merkos borders Toledo, OH is in Michigan and apparently now so is Windsor, ON as well.
Are there any other states like that which are “l’maaleh minhamakom”? What is the history of this? I ask in all seriousness.
I hate the word “territory”. The eibishter is bli gevul…enough said
