Close to 100 people attended a Mexican themed Purim party at Chabad Lubavitch of Bloomsbury, in central London.
The party, which took place at Chabad of Bloomsbury’s centre, in a prime location just off Oxford Street, was preceded by the reading of the Megillah, a mutual exchange of Mishloach Manos and the opportunity to give Matonos Lo’evyonim.
The highlight of the party was the authentic, live Mariachi band which added to the festive feel.
“The party was fun, festive and spiritually meaningful,” said Naomi Kaplan from Canada, a medical student at UCL. “What better way to celebrate purim than hearing the megillah read, indulging in delicious mexican food and seeing a live mariachi band?”
The much-praised Mexican food was for the most part catered by Chabad of Bloomsbury’s co-director Mrs. Devora Lew and supplemented by some catered finger food. There was also an open cocktail bar.
Emanuel Zelniker, an Australia working in London, said, “It was an exceptional event, with fantastic food and a wonderful atmosphere, as we’ve come to expect at Chabad of Bloomsbury.”
Rabbi Yisroel Lew, director of Chabad of Bloomsbury expressed his delight at the success of the event and the extremely enthusiastic feedback he has received. He adds however, “Success must serve as a springboard to ever greater success. We now have to focus on Pesach and our public Seders which are always very well attended and well received.”
Following the end of the main party many people stayed for a farbrengen which continued until late.
