A portion of Troy Avenue in the Crown Heights neighborhood in Brooklyn will no longer require meter payments for parking, starting this week.
The west side of Troy Avenue between Empire Boulevard and Carroll Streets, which for the past 5 years has had metered parking, has recently been adjusted to alternate side parking regulations, COLlive has learned.
The change in regulation is thanks to the efforts of the Brooklyn Borough Commissioner Keith Bray, Executive Director of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council, Eli Cohen, told COLlive.
Cohen and Chanina Sperlin, Intergovernmental Liaison for the CHJCC, met with Commissioner Bray 3 months ago, and requested the change for the benefit of community residents.
In a letter to the Commissioner, the CHJCC thanked Bray and his department for his “wonderful responsiveness in addressing our request.”
“By the change from metered parking to alternate side parking restrictions only…you have opened up dozens of previously under-used parking spaces to residents and visitors. This is particularly important on the weekend when many visitors come to Crown Heights and need parking over the Sabbath,” they wrote.
