Bris Avrohom was founded in 1979 by the Lubavitcher Rebbe and is under the direction of Rabbi Mordechai and Shterney Kanelsky. The organization greatly benefits the Russian Jewish community in the State of NJ.
In 1989, Bris Avrohom received a personal letter from the Lubavitcher Rebbe stating that part of its mission should include spreading the light of Chanukah to as many places as possible. The Rebbe explained that this will awaken the spirit of כי נר מצוה ותורה אור in every man and woman, young and old alike. This analogy implies that just as one increases in the lights of the menorah each day, so too must every person increase in good deeds each day.
Bris Avrohom has gone full force in heeded the request of the Rebbe, and Rabbi Kanelsky and his staff spread the lights of the menorah, increasing from year to year. This year, Bris Avrohom erected 150 menorahs across New Jersey for the benefit of over 30 million viewers.
