Thousands of Washingtonians were treated to a special sight on Sunday night as a parade of cars adorned with elegant menorahs made its way through the nation’s capital.
Passing the US Capitol, the US Supreme Court, the White House, and numerous other national monuments and landmarks, this was a “motorcade” of another nature, carrying not mere VIPs or dignitaries, but ambassadors of light and warmth in a huge practice of pirsumei nisa.
Many neighborhoods like Cleveland Park, AU Park, Embassy Row, Dupont Circle, Georgetown, Foggy Bottom and Capitol Hill had the Chanukah spirit brought to their streets, in this unique year where so many are still homebound due to COVID.
The parade was sponsored by the National Menorah Council of American Friends of Lubavitch (Chabad) in Washington, DC, and coordinated by Rabbi Yitzi and Shana Ceitlin of Chabad in East DC.
Organizers and participants dedicated the parade to the selfless First Responders who make our lives safe.
“We are grateful to the community leaders and Metropolitan Police Department for their diligence and consideration regarding this important event,” said Rabbi Levi Shemtov, Executive Vice President of American Friends of Lubavitch (Chabad).
