Chabad of The Turks and Caicos Islands, led by Rabbi Shmulik and Chaya Berkowitz, along with their children Sholom and Avi, recently hosted the 5th annual Chanukah party and Menorah lighting on the picturesque beach in Turks and Caicos.
In a delightful gathering, hundreds of both tourists and local Jews came together, as they do each year, to celebrate the festivities of Chanukah. The celebration included the Menorah lighting, the savory delights of fresh latkes and doughnuts, drinks, uplifting music, and more.
The children crafted their own menorahs from scratch and enjoyed a spectacular fire show.
This year’s event took on a deeper significance, with Rabbi Berkowitz expressing heartfelt sentiments before the Menorah lighting. “As we light the menorah tonight with family and friends, let’s remember our brothers and sisters in Israel, the over 130 individuals held captive and unable to celebrate Chanukah themselves. Our flame carries their presence in our thoughts and solidarity.” he shared, emphasizing the event’s broader connection to our brothers and sisters around the world.
The presence of Her Excellency, Governor Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam, and Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon. E. Jay Saunders, added an extra touch of significance to the celebration, underscoring the unity and support within the Jewish community.
In a touching revelation, a tourist who participated in the menorah lighting shared, “I haven’t had a Jewish encounter in over 30 years. I look forward to connecting with a local Chabad upon my arrival home.” This personal reflection beautifully captures the impact of Chabad of The Turks and Caicos Islands.
