R’ Mendel Karasik, a resident of the religious moshav Gimzo in central Israel, passed away this week at the age 84.
He was the son of R’ Yitzchok Aizik Karasik, the mashpia and gabbai of the Merkazi shul in the village of Kfar Chabad.
One of the first settlers of Kfar Chabad, his father founded the carpentry school in Kfar Chabad. Mendel learned the trade there making it his lifetime occupation.
He famously built an accurate model of the Beis Hamidash made of 100 pieces and able to be reassembled in front of crowds as an engaging learning experience.
His wife is the niece of Rabbi Yoel Kahn OBM, the head choizer of the Rebbe.
The funeral was held on Wednesday.
He is survived by his wife and children, and his brothers R’ Berel Karasik – Kfar Chabad, R’ Leibel Karasik – Safaria, R’ Benzion Karasik – Crown Heights, and R’ Eliezer Karasik – Raanana.
