Chabad Shluchim Rabbi Mendy and Peri Glitzenstein and their children were airlifted to Israel to receive medical treatment following a serious car accident in the Carpathian region of Ukraine on Wednesday.
The Glitzenstein lead the Jewish community in Chernivtsi, a city in a city in the southwestern part of the country. They returned from a visit to New York and cross the border from Budapest, Hungary to return home.
Since the Russian war broke out, they have been one of the first of the Shluchim to return to Ukraine and have been devoted to keeping their community alive and strong.
Their vehicle flipped over in a collision, leaving Rabbi Glitzenstein with a shoulder fracture, while Mrs. Glitzenstein and their daughter with cuts and bruises. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Despite an initial report expecting them to be discharged the next day, Thursday, one of them had a condition what was described as fair to critical.
Coming to their rescue were fellow Shluchim who coordinated a medical airlift with the Madasis company which organizes complex medical flights with an accompanying support team coordinated by Moshe Grosberger.
Assisting were Zhytomyr Chief Rabbi Shlomo Wilhelm, Rabbi Meir Stambler of the Federation of Jewish Community in Ukraine, Rabbi Mendel Wilhelm, and Rabbi Dovid Mundshine from Moscow, and Rabbi Shlomo Peles from Kfar Chabad, Israel.
