Thousands of people from all sectors of the Melbourne Jewish community lined the streets on Sunday for an impressive Lag B’Omer Parade. A project of Chabad Youth, this year’s parade began with inspiring words from a number of parliamentary dignitaries and community leaders.
Keeping with the theme of ‘Mitzvos,’ the parade featured over 50 floats, marching bands, stilt walkers, vintage cars, a fire truck, cherry picker and thousands of participants. Numerous Jewish day schools, shuls, youth groups and community organizations united to march and celebrate a day of joy in the spirit of co-operation, tolerance and unity.
Upon the parade’s completion at Orrong Rd, the festivities continued with a fair at Princes Park in South Caulfield. The fair reinforced feelings of community cohesiveness through an engaging powerful format of lively music, great rides, cultural stalls, food and a spectacular circus performance that awed the crowd.
