The office of the Mayor of New York City Bill de Blasio has responded to the complaint that the street lights in Crown Heights remained dim at night despite promises.
R’ Sholom Ber Goldstein, President of the Kingston Avenue Merchants Association in Crown Heights, penned a public letter to elected officials and community leaders about the darkened streets in the neighborhood.
Calling for an immediate restoration of our bright security lighting on Kingston and Albany avenues, he pointed out that the extra lighting was installed under the Zero-Tolerance Street Safety program.
“It is now 3 months and nothing has been done,” he wrote in the letter posted on COLlive.com on Tuesday. “It is not fair that our needs are not being met after all the effort and your promises go unheeded.”
He said that city officials assured him that 125 watts LED fixtures will be operational in July 2019.
“It is already July 24 and nothing has been done,” he said. “It is a matter of our neighborhood security of men, women and children.”
On Wednesday, the Mayor’s Office responded: “Regarding the Departement of Transportation / Kingston Lighting, [we] need to wait for mid-August to get it all changed and installed.”
What are we waiting for something dangerous to happen, it is a crime scene waiting to happen!
I can’t believe it!!! AGAIN, they are just pushing more time…. and more time…. and then the mayor wants to become a president….. ??? Lol !!!!
