At a pre-Pesach meeting at Toronto City Hall, Mayor John Tory turned the tables and taught a Chabad Rabbi about the Pesach holiday.
Rabbi Yirmi Cohen of Ohalei Yoseph Yitzchak Congregation in Toronto, Ontario, presented hand baked Shmura Matza to the Mayor, who proceeded to explain the spiritual lessons learned from eating Matzah on Pesach.
The Matzah “represents humility, since the Jews rushed away and the bread didn’t have time to rise,” the Mayor said. “I learned this from you,” he told Rabbi Cohen.
“We wish a happy Passover to both your congregants and also everybody else who is celebrating Passover,” the Mayor concluded.
Also in attendance was Councillor James Pasternak, who thanked Rabbi Cohen for coming down to City Hall.
“The meeting was a big kiddush Hashem and I’m sure that the Rebbe is proud,” Rabbi Cohen said.
