Man Who Stabbed Bochur on Kingston Ave Sentenced to 5 Years

An attacker who shouted “Free Palestine” and stabbed a Chabad Bochur in Crown Heights last year was sentenced to five years in prison earlier this month.

Vincent Sumpter pleaded guilty to attempted murder and was sentenced on October 8, the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office told The Times of Israel on Monday.

Sumpter was initially charged with eight felonies, including assault as a hate crime, according to an arrest report at the time.

Sumpter, who was 22 at the time of the attack, stabbed Yechiel Dabrowskin, a Chabad bochur who came to the U.S. to study at 770 Yeshiva, on a Friday night in August 2024 in Crown Heights, within 100 feet of Chabad Headquarters 770.

The incident began when Sumpter exited the Subway station and started to walk on Kingston Ave, towards Union Street. After crossing paths with a group of Bochurim, he began to intentionally harass and attempt to provoke them by yelling “free Palestine!” and other anti-Semitic slurs.

The group initially ignored him and the perp remained in the immediate vicinity waiting and looking for more victims to provoke.

After continuing to harass multiple other passersby, he confronted and physically threatened another group while screaming “do you want to die?”. He then became physically aggressive and suddenly withdrew a knife and stabbed a bochur and attempted to stab a 2nd victim as well.
