A perpetrator was arrested after breaking into a car and slashing a witness early Sunday morning.
The incident occurred near Montgomery St and Brooklyn Ave where the perpetrator was breaking into vehicles. When he tried fleeing the scene, he pulled out a box cutter and slashed a witness, a Jewish male, in the hand.
Shmira and the NYPD were able to apprehend the perpetrator and he was arrested nearby.
The victim was treated by Hatzalah and is expected to be ok.

Why in the world should he be charged attempted murder? Listen, I’m all for prosecuting criminals harshly and long prison sentences, but you can’t just charge criminals with things they didn’t do just because they are criminals. Attempted murder is an offense punishable by up to life in prison. Life in prison. And you want him to potentially sit in prison for the rest of his life because he slashed someone’s hands with a box-cutter? What, an Assault or Battery Charge (no pun intended)? In my opinion, that would be pretty cruel, and thus a violation of the 8th amendment.

Oh I’m sorry, I forgot that the way the criminal justice system works in is that the victim gets to decide the punishment of the offender! you’re right, the victim who is severely wounded should decide the fate of this man and if he decides that he should be sentenced to death, then so be it.
Did that sound weird to you? I sure hope it did. The Jury and Judge must be fair and impartial. There is a reason why the victim does not decide the punishment, he has an obvious prejudice against the offender.
