A 3- alarm fire broke out in a large apartment building in Crown Heights early Monday morning, with many fire personnel on the scene.
The fire broke out at around 2:30 Monday morning at the 4 story building at 1365 Carroll Street and Kingston Avenue, where many Lubavitch families reside.
A Lubavitcher man who was walking down the street and saw smoke, began climbing the fire escape and banging on windows to alert the residents, a witness told COLlive.
The witness said that it was due to this heroic act that many lives were saved.
Another witness stated that residents ran out in pajamas into the streets, and a large crowd gathered as well.
“It’s really scary because it actually happened, the same apartment was on fire twice in a row, the same exact apartment. I think they were fixing it and there might have been an electrical fire. And it spread from the second to the third to the fourth and there were flames, bright orange and red flames coming out, it was crazy,” one witness told CBS 2′s Jennifer McLogan.
More than 100 firefighters responded to the blaze and finally brought it under control before 5 a.m.
None of the building’s residents were seriously injured. 11 firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation.

We were in our pajamas, saw the fire, threw on clothing and ran out to help our fellow Jews. We brought people into our house, brought people clothing and water. Please don’t judge.

A friend of mine, on his way home from a night, bicycle workout, passed by 770 at 1:00am when he remembered he forgot to daven Maariv. Once he finished his prayer, he noticed a farbrengen going on among young chassidim under the women’s section, so he decided to join them for a while. Then he began walking home at 2:20 am. As he crossed Carrol he noticed the fire. He picked up a brick, ran into the building and started smashing every door he could, to arouse the tenants. My friend is a hero!
Amazing story. Kol Hakavod to this man.

The Alter Rebbe interpreted the statement, “Whoever saves a single person of (the people) Israel is as though he saved an entire world1”: One must perceive a Jew as he stands in the primordial thought of Adam Kadmon. There, each soul stands with all the generations destined to descend from it until the coming of Mashiach, the righteous Redeemer. When one does a favor to an individual, it is a favor to all those souls until the end of all generations.
