New York City mayoral contender Zohran Mamdani is under fire after appearing in a photograph at a Brooklyn mosque standing arm-in-arm and smiling with Imam Siraj Wahhaj, a longtime local religious leader who was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. The image emerged shortly after the first mayoral debate and prompted criticism of Mamdani’s choice of associations.
Wahhaj, 75, who also heads the Muslim Alliance in North America, was fingered by prosecutors as an “unindicted co-conspirator” in the 1993 WTC bombing, which left six people dead, and has publicly defended the plotters of the attack against the FBI and CIA, whom he at the time dubbed the “real terrorists.”
“The evidence demonstrates that Mamdani’s political trajectory has not only been supported by activist movements but also reinforced by endorsements and alliances noted in figures with a documented history of extremist views and activities, posing a direct national security threat to New York City and the U.S.,” according to the report.
In the post on X, Mamdani told followers he had met “one of the nation’s foremost Muslim leaders and a pillar of the Bed-Stuy community” at Masjid At-Taqwa, and called it “a beautiful Jummah.” Wahhaj, 75, who leads the Muslim Alliance in North America and founded the mosque, has publicly defended extremist figures and once urged a “gun-free jihad” march through New York, according to intelligence reports.
Mamdani, the 33-year-old state assemblyman representing Queens (District 36) and a self-described democratic socialist, is the democratic frontrunner in the upcoming election against former governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa. His campaign for mayor is built on proposals such as fare-free city buses, universal child care, city-owned grocery stores, rent freezes on rent-stabilized units, and higher taxes on millionaires and corporations.
Mamdani has refused to clearly affirm that Israel has a right to exist as a Jewish state. He has said he supports “Israel’s right to exist as a state with equal rights for all,” but not specifically “as a Jewish state.” He has also declined to unequivocally condemn or repudiate the slogan “globalize the intifada,” which many Jewish and pro-Israel groups view as a call to violence or at least glorifying violent uprising.
Some Jewish leaders and analysts have argued that his positions diminish the legitimacy of Israel, make Jewish voters uneasy, and raise questions about his ability to represent and protect Jewish New Yorkers.
“The fact that Mamdani stands with this imam is disqualifying,” said Republican mayoral nominee Curtis Sliwa.
“New York needs a mayor who protects New Yorkers from terrorism, not embraces terrorists.”

Who is surprised
Guys wake up
Anyone who thinks we should engage with this guy are out of their minds. He is a virulently antisemitic, dangerous Jihadist.
In all likelihood is going to win so we might as well try to create somewhat of a strong tie with him or you could say goodbye to closing down eastern parkway or Kingston every other night
Lets put trust in Hashem and not upon person
don’t vote at all then and none of it matters?
How did this guy win the most votes?????????
The entire nyc will turn in to zoo , criminals will be out there will be chaos and violence is this what we want?
B”H
Unfortunately there are so many unhappy people out there both religious and not that are willing to do the opposite of what is right in order to have a feeling of control. They are often on a high from chaos that they cause.
These people that I’m referring to are often Rabbis and teachers that are willing to sacrifice their own brothers on the altar of madness. We’re talking unhappy with a capital U.
I’m not sure what the solution to this is. These people should know what a great sin this is.
We really need Moshiach!
what does that mean? if he’s unindicted he’s not indicted, it means he hasn’t been formally accused or charged, which means he’s just like every other person. What am I missing?
More importantly, it seems Mamdani is unabashedly staking his positions will get a majority of the votes. deal with it.
bs”d Don’t sugarcoat this or treat it by going back to ‘business as usual’. More & more red flags are emerging. Sliwa said this association of ZM with a known (albeit terrorist) is disqualifying. It would be interesting to go further down that road and pursue that line of thinking, and maybe something constructive could be done with it, to take action on that basis. 9-11 was a big deal. Around 3000 died right away & many died later of resulting illness &/or injuries. Plus very important infrastructure was lost. This friend of ZM is a crucial part of Bed-Stuy… Read more »
It came to this because when the ethnic New Yorkers fled leaving a majority of anomalous anti family atheist whites to send their offspring to public schools to get brainwashed in atheism, communism, and anti Israel, we, of all groups, remained for the most part, INSULAR, presenting mivtzas sheva mitzvos as a pro-forma ritual, instead of a full-fledged campaign az men darf tze Zein. We didn’t do enough to impose the curriculum into the public school system and we didn’t wage war on Reform. We looked elsewhere. Let’s face it – Most of the antifada are Deformed Jews and their… Read more »
Before I vote for him I’d like his take on the bike lanes and most importantly on the eruv.
