A Lubavitcher merchant who deals with Daled Minim sets for the holiday of Sukkos is currently visiting Egypt amid its current state of political and social uncertainty.
Asked not to be named, he said locals he does business with each year in the city of El Arish have treated him well and he did not encounter any threats to his life.
“I do not sense any hate,” he told our Hebrew sister site COL.org.il in a phone conversation. “The Arabs and Bedouins are very nice and respectful to me, as in the past.”
Concern was voiced in Israel this past week over the possibility of a hike in prices over Lulavim that are imported from Egypt following the Arab Uprising and the change of regime.
The merchant said while that was a possibility which he hoped will not happen, he said it depended more on the Israeli and Jewish Lulav dealers.
“We always have to negotiate here but unfortunately it is our merchants that are trying to higher the prices. The Arabs here would not think of doing it if not for the ‘help’ of our own,” he said.
What’s wrong with buying lulavim from our Arab neighbors? Remember, they are our cousins. Maybe the best and cheapest ones are from there… I mean, you can grow almost anything anywhere, but you’ll have to pay more for it. As for Egypt, there is no prohibition for doing business there, you can vacation there, sightsee, etc… One is not allowed to live there. Of course, if a Jewish King with the backing of the Sanhedrin takes the place over, all restrictions are off. Seems as if the climate in California would be ideal to grow the most mehudar arba minim ever seen in this world. It would take a few years, but getting a California esrog/lulav would totally catch on.
I am not 100% sure but am almost certain that the only problem is actually living there, but to just visit there is fine.
Please correct me if I am wrong: Yidden are not allowed to step foot in Egypt.
Last i checked, Yidddin DO NOT go to egypt, following ma’aseh mitzrayim, except to protect themselves.
Is this not correct?
Lulavim grown in soil soaked with…
In all the world is there nowhere to else for us to buy our divrei mitzvah.
I am appalled.
Especially since almost no one asks where their lulavim come from, and surely if many did, they wouldn’t accept a lulav from that place, unless no other lulav were available, and even then…

What is the problem? Shmitta? Trumos/maasros?
Why would they think to raise the price and possibly lose business to cheaper suppliers? What else could the Arabs possibly do with lulavim other than sell them to the Jews?
IT IS TRUE .. IT IS THE SAME WITH THE SHAITLACH
THE PRICES FOR SHAITLACH ARE WAY WAY OVER THE TOP AND THIS WAS ACCOMPLISHED BY THE YIDDELACH!
I APPLAUD YOU FOR NOT TAKING ADVANTAGE OF AN OPPORTUNITY THAT WAS LITTERALLY IN YOUR LAP AND YOU CHOSE TO PASS ON THE BETTER PRICE -SEEMS LIKE YOU ARE HAPPY TO DO SO TOO.. KOL HAKAVOID..
