In the year commemorating the 150th yartzeit of the Tzemach Tzedek, a special concert preceded by learning, will be held tonight, Tuesday, Aug. 16 at 8:30 p.m. Israel Daylight Time, at the landmark Tsfat Beis Knesset that bears the name of the Tzemach Tzedek, the 3rd Lubavitcher Rebbe.
The free event for men and women will feature Rabbi Yair Calev, performing soul-inspiring Chassidic melodies, including nigunim of the Tzemach Tzedek and his prized chassid, Rabbi Hillel of Paritch, whose yartzeit happens to be the 11th of Av.
The event, being produced by long-time shluchim of the Rebbe to the Old City of Tsfat and directors of the shul and nearby Chabad House, Rabbi and Mrs. Gavriel Marzel, is being sponsored by the Rappaport family of Toronto, within the first year of the passing of the Rappaport family patriarch, Avrohom Chaim Yisroel Rappaport, obm, the beloved benefactor of the refurbished Tzemach Tzedek Synagogue and Beis Midrash, and shortly after the first yartzeit of his wife, Mrs. Rachel Rappaport, OBM.
Rabbi Marzel, whose son-in-law, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Zilberstrom, was instrumental in planning and producing the event, said it promises to be a refreshing option for the thousands who attend the annual Tsfat Klezmer Festival, which began Monday night and runs through Wednesday night.
