MUST (Mothers Unite to Stall Technology) South Florida, representing a variety of South Florida Jewish schools, is officially launching tonight at a community-wide event.
MUST unites parents to postpone the age at which their children are allowed personal ownership of smart devices or to pause the progression of their use of personal device technology and social media. By joining together, we eliminate the peer pressure surrounding our children. The MUST revolution will protect and enable our children to thrive without the distractions and dangers of smart devices.
A group of Lubavitch Educational Center (LEC) mothers had already launched the MUST program in July 2021, working off the momentum provided by the Crown Heights event. Over the summer, over 25 moms signed up as “Pledge Initiators” or “Class Ambassadors” across 10-year levels (girls and boys) at LEC.
MUST Founder, Mrs. Michal Klerer of Brooklyn, NY, who also addressed the MUST Crown Heights Kickoff event, will speak. In addition, Rabbi Mendel Toron, MSW, LSW, a South Florida-based psychotherapist who works with students at LEC and Rohr Middle School, will share his understanding of the impact of personal devices on children.
A teen who attends Lubavitch Educational Center (LEC) will be addressing parents on why she opted not to get a smartphone, even when most of her peers already have one.
Organizers say they expect hundreds of parents to attend the event and that parents of children in a vast range of schools have already registered. The schools include LEC, Lanaar Elementary School, Child Enrichment Center (The Shul), Yeshiva Toras Chaim Toras Emes (YTCTE), Gan Katan (Elementary), Yeshiva Elementary School (YES), Lubavitch Hebrew Academy, Brauser Maimonides Academy, Scheck Hillel Community School, Torah Academy of Boca Raton and Hebrew Academy (RASG).
This event will take place on Sunday, December 26, 2021, at 7:00 PM at Bais Menachem Chabad of North Miami Beach. Mothers and fathers of children in any Jewish school in South Florida are encouraged to attend.
