Before 1991, the year of the Crown Heights riots, there were no meetings and definitely no press conferences. There was no one to speak to because we kept to ourselves as did our neighbors. When tensions rose, because no one was ‘meeting’, talking or communicating, the tension took to the streets and the rest is history. After 1991 things changed.
