When Rabbi Zushe and Esther Winner moved to West Brighton Beach the Rebbe gave them a blessing to be “A beacon of light for your community.” In fulfillment of this blessing, the West Brighton community was lit up with beautiful programs every day of Chanukah for children, teens, and adults of all ages.
COMMUNAL PROGRAMS:
Chanukah celebrations began with the Chabad Kid’s Culinary Club! Children joined by adults were peeling, chopping, frying and eating traditional Chanukah delicacies while enjoying a lively Chanukah performance; the little chefs and their parents had a blast!
At the communal Chanukah event held on Sunday, at the Seabreeze Jewish Center, over five hundred participants joined together for The Grand Chanukah Extravaganza, where fire jugglers, pony rides, a petting zoo, moon bounces, face painting and a balloon artist all entertained. The event was organized in conjunction with shluchim Rabbi Zushe and Esther Winner, Rabbi Avraham and Shula Winner and Rabbi Moshe Dovid and Leah Winner.
Chabad arranged that every evening of Chanukah thousands of hearts were touched as their souls were ignited by the Yeshiva students who personally went to homes throughout the larger community, bringing Chanukah joy to parents and children alike, illuminating the light of Chanukah into their homes throughout the greater Brighton Beach area.
A Grand Menorah lighting in The Holocaust Park located in Manhattan Beach was organized by Rabbi Avrohom Winner while doughnuts and “Chanukah gelt” was passed around to all. Dancing and celebrating ensued amongst the Russian Jewish community members who cherish the lights of Chanukah and its Symbol of freedom.
ADULT PROGRAM:
The catering hall at the exclusive Club Cats hosted a great Chanukah experience enjoyed by a large crowd of adults. Highlights included a beautiful Menorah lighting, dinner buffet, open bar and a world- renowned ventriloquist, who kept the audience enthralled till late night. “ I feel so proud to be a Jew,” said Raya Miletskaya of the event.
Shabbos Chanukah Shabbatons where held in all in three Chabad locations! Inspirational talks, large group meals and farbrengens were the highlight, and everyone left feeling like family.
CHABAD TEENS:
The Chabad teens rocked up the city the First Night of Chanukah! The Chabad Bar & Bas Mitzvah club youth arrived in style, in a stretch Hummer Limo, to the World’s Largest Menorah in Midtown Manhattan, and watched the public lighting while handing out Chanukah Kits to passersby. The groups then went on to visit the Diamond District Synagogue for a Chanukah bash & Sub-Sandwich Dinner. “This program made Chanukah 100 times more exciting and meaningful for me”, said Sasha, new to the Chabad Boys Club.
C-Teens where well prepared for Chanukah! A Pizza party that made “chilling” with friends and the Rabbis a great time, while igniting their Jewish spark. Thanks to Rabbi Lazer Perlstein and Rabbi Moshe Dovid Winner, who organized this incredible program! The teens with their parents also participated along the Chanukah Event at Barclays Center.
