The Bais Eliyahu Nochum Shul Mikvah, at 672 Lefferts Avenue between Albany and Troy Avenues in Crown Heights, will reopen next week after being closed down for a year and a half due to a fire.
“We will finally be reopening to the public B’ezras Hashem on Tuesday, 25 Adar, March 25th,” Shul President Rabbi Dovid Rimler told COLlive.com.
The Mikvah had been closed since a fire broke out at the Shul, known as ‘Lefferts Shul’ to many, in October of 2023.
The cause of the fire was electrical that started in the Mikvah pump filter, firefighters said. The Mikvah had been closed since then.
Congregation Adas Yisroel – Beis Midrash Eliyahu Nachum, affectionately known simply as, “the Lefferts Shul”, became a Lubavitch shul in 1975.
Before Rosh Hashanah of 5749, the Rebbe declared that year to be Shnas Habinyan, and encouraged Shuls to make efforts to expand. The Chassidim of Congregation Adas Yisroel took this call to action and began to fundraise. As he did for anyone that agreed to expand, the Rebbe personally gave them 100 dollars. The community collectively raised $125,000 to expand the Shul, while Rabbi Zalman Gurary donated funds to renovate and expand the Mikvah.
In recent years, the facade of the Shul has been renovated as a replica of 770 Eastern Parkway. They made Mikvah membership fully automated and enhanced the Mikvah facilities.

The driveway has been used to store large amounts of building materials and trash for many months. When it rains, large deep puddles form. During the winter months, snow and ice are not removed. Many women are simply not able to get through. How about having some regard for the children, mothers and grandmothers who used to attend Lefferts Shul? Please remove the hazards and maintain the entrance and driveway now and in the future so that we can… Read more »
Many readers are aware of how “long” the driveway is. It’s not longer than other driveways, is it? You would get more sympathy for your post if you were straightforward about your issue.
The driveway runs from the sidewalk to the building, continues alongside and between two houses, then past a small backyard to where a garage might be. It is not lit. At night, the portion between the two houses is very dark, not safe for walking.
Are they going to raise the prices?
