Leadership takes many forms. You may lead a team, a department, a business, or a school. You may be an old pro at managing a team, or have just made your first hire. The one thing all business leaders agree on is that the daily challenge of keeping a team engaged, knowing how and when to have tough conversations, and managing the fine line between providing direction and micromanagement is the one of the toughest part of the job.
Yehudi Meshchaninov, leadership consultant and Director of Development at The New American Academy, is bringing a Harvard University-developed leadership workshop to the Crown Heights business community to take some of the mystery out of management.
Titled “Maximizing Leadership,” the workshop will offer concrete tools that will drastically improve the way you manage your team.
Leadership is all about communication. How well do you manage challenging conversations? How do you handle different perspectives with employees you supervise, especially the difficult ones? This 2-day workshop teaches the skills and theory of empowering leadership. Empowering leaders enable their key people to continuously examine and change their practice for the better and do their best work as members of a team. They do so by being trustworthy, by inspiring commitment to mutual inquiry, and by modeling for their key people how to define and solve the inherently confusing problems of improving performance. The workshop utilizes tools featured in the book Talk Sense: Communicating to Lead and Learn (Research for Better Teaching, 2007) by Barry Jetz.
The workshop, to be held June 15th-16th, will teach you the skills and strategies to get employees to share their best innovative ideas, creative solutions, and candid feedback.
A free intro session will be held on Wednesday, May 28th, from 7:30 pm-8:30 pm, at CHYE, 510 Empire Blvd. This event will serve as an intro to the Maximizing Leadership seminar in June. Whether you are curious about the seminar or are looking for concrete ideas that will help you improve your leadership skills and expand your business, this event is for you.

Big difference between managing & leading, so if you currently are in a managerial position then this will probably really benefit you. Unfortunately I don’t live in the US.
I’ve been looking for a workshop like this for a long time…
