Montmagny, a suburb of Paris in France, celebrated the grand inauguration of a magnificent mikvah titled in French “Le Spa Mikveh,” bringing great joy to its Jewish community.
With approximately 300 families in the community, the absence of a mikvah had caused significant hardship and an important need.
The path to building one wasn’t easy.
The driving force behind it were Shluchim Rabbi Michael and Devorah Sitbon, who were sent in the city 12 years by the late Head Shliach Rabbi Shmuel Azimov, of blessed memory.
“The blessings of the Rebbe have accompanied us at every step and despite all the challenges and delays throughout the construction process, we have now merited an everlasting gift,” Rabbi Sitbon shared.
The mikvah was built with all the necessary enhancements, including immersion pools, a side well, and a rainwater reservoir. Its construction was supervised by Rabbi Levi Kahn, Rov of Heikhal Menachem community in Paris, France.
The building, designed to resemble the iconic Lubavitch Headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway in New York, will also serve the community’s needs as a Chabad daycare and kindergarten.
This mikvah was constructed with the assistance of community members, Chabad House, and the support of the Mikvah Tahara Association in the United States, founded by Rabbi Avraham Yehoshua Waldman.
The event took place last week on Tuesday, the 15th of Tammuz. Distinguished attendees included Rabbi Kahn, Rabbi Waldman, Vaucluse Rabbi Shalom Bruce, Vaucluse Shliach Rabbi Yaakov Bitton, and Rabbi Yechiel Brand.
Rabbi Michael Sitbon spoke about the great privilege the city had in establishing its first mikvah, connecting it to the 12th and 13th of Tammuz, when the Frierdiker Rebbe was liberated from Communist prison for spreading Judaism.
He emphasized the self-sacrifice of the Rebbe, who dedicated his life to strengthening the mikvahs in Russia. Following his words, other esteemed rabbis delivered blessings, praising the importance and virtue of the mikvah.
Enhancing the event with their melodic voices were the singer and composer Aharon Sitbon, father of the local Shliach, who specially arrived from Israel for the occasion, and the singer Shalom Djan, a member of the community.
The participants had the opportunity to tour the mikvah and admire the meticulous attention to detail at every step.
