Congregation Levi Yitzchok in Los Angeles, California, was packed with hundreds of people to celebrate the dedication of a Sefer Torah this week.
Flanked by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, patriarch of the Solomon family, Reb Reuven Solomon, celebrated his 80th birthday as his family dedicated a Sefer Torah in his honor.
The Solomon family flew in from all over the world to celebrate a special Shabbos together that culminated with the Torah Dedication.
Originally from London, England, Reuven Solomon was one of the first members of the Lubavitch London Kehillah from the 1950’s.
Since moving to Los Angeles, Reb Reuven starts each day at 4:45 am, opening the doors of his beloved Shul, Cong. Levi Yitzchok on North La Brea Avenue. The first one at each Minyan and Shiur, Reb Reuven is respected for his meticulous promptness and commitment to his Avodas Hatfiloh.
A lifelong businessman and community supporter, Reuven had been blessed to have a special relationship with the Rebbe including many lengthy private Yechidusim.
Rabbi Levi Raichik, the Shul’s gabbai, mentioned how impressive the turnout was. “It is not surprising to me that so many people came from near and far to celebrate, as this is indicative of the love and the highest regard that his family, friends and community hold for him,” he said.
Rabbi Mendy Solomon, Reuven’s son and Shliach in Short Hills, NJ stated that “True to form, the very next morning after the dedication at 4:45am, there was my father opening the Shul, carrying out the mandate of ‘Zrizim Makdimim Lemitzvos’. Through his humble and reserved demeanor, our father inspires us all by his actions, commitment and menchlichkeit.”
A special mention and Lechaim was made during the Seudah in observance of that day’s Yarzheit of Reb Mendel Futerfas, (Daled Tammuz) with whom Reb Reuven worked together in business for over 25 over years and with whom he had a very special bond.
The Solomon children are especially thankful to the entire community who came to share in their Simcha, they said.

What a most deserving HONOR for Mr Solomon, growing up in London Mr Solomon was one of the most genuinely kind, honest fun witty individuals I knew.
He brought such happiness to our home with his Shabbos afternoon visits – one of my highlights of growing up in Stamford hill.
