At a time of lighting candles, BJHA is committed to keeping the flame of learning lit—with this Online fundraising Appeal.
Each child’s Jewish spirit is like a candle; we don’t ever want that flame to go out! Rather, we want its unique spirit to grow and flourish. It’s why we come to work every day at the Brooklyn Heights Jewish Academy.
On our watch, and under our trained and loving teachers’ care, we increase the unique light of each child, and not in Jewish studies alone: Karate?: Check. Chess?: Check. The Arts?: Check.
Include with our incredibly diverse curriculum an infrastructure of state-of-the-art computer technology, a staff trained in not only in secular studies but in Chassidus, and a newly renovated facility (easily accessible in Downtown Brooklyn) and you can see for us, this is no 8-day thing; we planned this effort to last. BJHA is the sort of miracle you dream would happen every day, and it does, every time a child comes to class.
Head of School, Marina Pinkhasik, a longtime science teacher in the public school system, realizes well the importance of making the best education accessible to children of ALL Jewish backgrounds; Shternie Raskin Principal of Gan Menachem-Kiddie Korner Pre-School provides guidance for how to ground that diversity in a nurturing Jewish environment; and Rabbi Aaron L. Raskin, well-known for his Online classes on Chabad.org and YouTube, and outreach, knows each child by name.
“Chassidic philosophy, which has tremendous emphasis on loving your fellow man, love G-d, and Torah,” says Raskin, “and deals with philosophical questions of faith, free choice, redemption, and moshiach, and serving G-d with joy—this is something a every child should have. You can’t be too young to take in how much you are loved as Jewish soul, along with the secular information you get in math, or chess, or science. A Jew is a whole being, and BHJA sees that whole picture.”
