Kehot Publication Society, the official Chabad publishing house, based in Brooklyn, New York, issued a “consumer alert” of Chabad seforim that are being sold with their logo.
In a public letter, sent to COLlive.com, Kehot wrote on Thursday:
“It has come to our attention that many counterfeited Kehot books and Siddurim Tehilat Hashem are being sold on the open market to innocent, unaware consumers. These include reproductions or retypeset works belonging to Kehot Publication Society, the sacred institution founded by the Frierdike Rebbe and directed by the Rebbe, of blessed memory.
“We appeal to the public to refrain from using or purchasing these books, and not strengthen the hands of the unscrupulous people producing and selling these items. Besides being acts of brazen theft, their actions are a malicious revolt against our Rebbes who have asserted that all these books belong solely to the Kehot Publication Society.”
They added that the best way to spot a forged book is to check whether the copyright page includes the actual contact information of Kehot, such as phone numbers and email address of Kehot (718-774-4000 / 718-778-0226 / [email protected]).
“If the above do not appear in the book, it is a stolen and counterfeited publication, which is forbidden to be used or purchased,” they wrote.
They added that “fair and straightforward members” of the Chabad community will not lend a hand to these counterfeiters. “ay
the perpetrators repent from their sinful ways,” the letter concluded.
