As the Yomim Norayim approach, Rabbi Yossi Raskin, founder of JGivts, is once again leading efforts to support South Florida families in need for Rosh Hashanah. For Rabbi Raskin and his Wife Nava, this season is a critical time to provide assistance, particularly to those facing financial challenges exacerbated by life crises.
Founded five years ago, JGivts began its mission following Rabbi Raskin’s earlier initiative of distributing food boxes to families in need. Recognizing the enormous impact of timely assistance, JGivts has grown to play a very important role in the lives of hundreds of families, especially single mothers, widows, and teachers across South Florida’s Jewish communities.
Joining Rabbi Raskin in his mission is Yossi Gopin, owner of KC Market, and his wife Rochel Leah. KC is a major Kosher supermarket in South Florida with two locations. KC operates in Hollywood, FL as well as Boynton Beach, and they are set to open a third location in Hallandale. KC has pledged up to $100,000 in matching funds in this effort. Together with Rabbi Raskin, Mr. Gopin has coordinated to bring in additional corporate sponsors such as Kedem, Liebers, Shield Funding and Aamorse Construction which have all agreed to give $10,000 toward this fundraising goal.
“For many families, including teachers like myself,” shares a grateful recipient, “JGivts has been a beacon of hope.” This sentiment resonates deeply within the community, where financial pressures often overshadow the Simcha of festive occasions.
With over 300 families benefiting from JGivts’ $1000 gift cards this year, amounting to a total need of $300,000, Rabbi Raskin underscores the organization’s commitment to ensuring that every family can celebrate with dignity.
One educator who is a recipient of JGivts, reflected on her 24-year career and the challenges of supporting a large family. The South Florida educator expresses profound gratitude: “I often tell people that I’m very rich, just not necessarily with money!” Like many dedicated educators, she supplements her income with side jobs to make ends meet. JGivts’ proactive approach, reaching out before the holidays, ensures that families can prepare for Rosh Hashanah without feeling like a burden.
“Attending the Kinus HaMechanchim this year,” she continues, “I realized just how vital organizations like JGivts are. They not only provide financial relief but also restore our sense of dignity during the holidays.”
