A Jewish woman was mugged on Thursday night while walking on Crown Street near Albany Avenue in Crown Heights.
The incident occurred at approximately midnight, when a black male approached her from behind, and robbed her during a struggle, police said.
The man took her phone, credit card and student ID.
A canvass was conducted for the perpetrator, and he was apprehended shortly afterwards by police.
Some of the victim’s property was recovered on the thief, and other property was found by Shomrim volunteers nearby.
Krav Maga, street cameras, concealed carry, dont walk around at midnight!!!
No one should feel scary by going late, we host lots of guests here too. This is college student weekend here. Hope this young women is ok and the thief will be punished at the maximum
Also need pepper spray
A spray is enough into the eyes of the thugs. That way one won’t get shot with one’s own gun.
I know this comment is going to cause controversy….but, why was this woman walking on the street alone at this time?
She has the right to walk the streets any time she wants. There’s no curfew. The real question is why is the thug walking the streets?
You are 1,000 PERCENT CORRECT
I agree with you. Yes she has the absolute right to walk around at midnight alone in the streets. Exactly. With that she has the potential to be mugged and Ch’V hurt too. There choice lies within each and every one of us. Thank you for clarifying her right.
Let’s just pretend we live in a neighborhood that we can raise our children safely by blaming folks for being out past there bedtime.
Maybe she’s a single girl who lives in crown heights , Maybe she was walking with friends and they split up for the end of the walk … maybe she was running an errand she didn’t want anyone with her … Or maybe she was irresponsible. I guess , lesson learned , everyone try to walk in a group ( not that it stops that much in our beloved Shechuna , but it for sure can’t hurt) Ppl might get mad and say “ she had the right to be alone … yeah 100%. You have the right, but maybe… Read more »
so if there are animals out there, why do you accept that instead of doing something about them? Why is it that only we have to change?
Or Sheva brachas or other simcha?
Sending healing thoughts to the young women. So unfortunate you had to go through this. But hoping you are okay
The previous first spouse is complaining that white people are still scared to live in black neighborhoods. Maybe she should give a speech in a local Mosque against violent crime!
Let as know when this black male perpetrator is back on our streets
As a single girl in Crown Heights in the ’70s, we were told that the Rebbe said that girls should not walk by themselves at night.
I believe that it applies to women of all ages and we know that the advice of the Rebbe is not limited by when it is given.
May she have a refua shelaima from all physical, mental and emotional trauma of this experience.

Maybe she had just parked her car and was walking home. There are less and less parking spots, especially now that the corners are being renovated. Often it is necessary to park several blocks away from one’s destination. DeBlasio has a campaign going to make it tougher and tougher for people to drive in New York. He takes away driving lanes, parking spots…etc… How practical is it for a young, pregnant mother of four to take all of her children and their belongings on the train (especially up and down those treacherous stairs? Or for a 63 year old woman… Read more »
In any big city it’s just a given that women should not be walking alone late at night, it would be great if that wasn’t the case, but it’s just how the world is. You can’t control what kind of people there are in the world and big cities are highly populated and that means all kinds of people with major issues as well. Women have to be extra careful and vigilant about their safety, it’s an unfortunate reality.
Second amendment never give it up. We all should carry and when needed use it. Shabbath shalom
It is very important for all Jewish communities , that Shuls. and Schools are taught Self Defense, including. Children Boys and Girls , if one can defend ones self, these sub humans, will think twice of attacking iin the future.
Learning defense is not so simple. People think it’s a few lessons as you can take on the thugs o the street. There are people who studied karate for years and can’t apply the knowledge they have. It takes a certain streetwise attitude. It’s not like pulling a trigger of a gun. It takes years of training and it has to be right instructors. It’s not so simple. I have seen kids who thought they can take on the street bully’s and get hurt. Taking these defense lessons gives a false sense of confidence especially when dealing with vicious street… Read more »
Well she maybe shouldn’t have walked alone at this time. But that’s not a reason to blame her not always u have a choice of not waking alone. Also this definitely does not give the thief the right to rob! In short our streets should be safer and should be safe enough to walk anytime!!
They were there for the chickens but now they are nowhere to be seen. As expected.
First thing is that we must get rid of the liberal democrats by registering to vote. New York is now turning into Dinkin era with this irresponsible mayor. Each passing day crime is on the increase because the police have their hands tied. I spoke to a number of police officers and they all tell me they look the other way. If they confront criminals they could lose their jobs or be sued. So they take their sweet time responding to violent calls. The liberal city council and state senate are destroying New York. They are releasing criminals in mass… Read more »
His disgusting behavior will catch up with him whether or not justice does.
While this shouldn’t happen to anyone, I dearly hope that this victim was not a visitor to Crown Heights for the College Shabbaton! This could easily have been a student arriving in time to participate!
