A Brooklyn mother traveling alone with her six children was forced off a JetBlue flight in Orlando, Fla. Wednesday when her 2-year-old daughter wouldn’t wear her mask, NY Daily News reported.
Flight attendants ordered Chaya Bruck of Midwood to get off the Newark-bound plane after her daughter Dina refused to keep the face covering on — and when the desperate mom tried to explain the tot wasn’t cooperating, the attendants told all of the passengers to get off the aircraft.
“It was horrible, the whole experience was traumatizing,” Bruck told the Daily News from Orlando International Airport, where she and her children were still stranded Wednesday afternoon.
“I was trying very hard…(The other children) were wearing their masks with their noses covered,” she said. “It says (on JetBlue’s website) that a child who cannot wear a mask does not have to wear a mask. I tried to tell them this, but they didn’t care…They wanted me off the plane.
“(The other passengers) were sticking up for me….All of my kids were crying. I was shaking…It was inhumane.”
JetBlue strengthened its policy on face coverings earlier this month, noting that passengers must cover their noses and mouths in order to board. That rule did not apply to children 2 years old or younger.
The airline company updated its policy Wednesday at 2 p.m. — just 44 minutes after Bruck’s flight was set to take off at 1:16 p.m. — according to the timestamp on its Travel Alerts page. The policy says “all travelers 2 years and older must wear a face covering over their nose and mouth throughout their journey.”
A spokesman for JetBlue said the policy on face coverings was updated Aug. 10 to include 2-year-olds.
Other passengers began yelling at the attendant to stop harassing Bruck and allow her to remain on the plane, video footage from the plane shows.
“Leave her alone!” one woman called out as several passengers stood up in their seats to record the incident.
“They were really nasty,” passenger Charzette Poinsette told The News. “(Bruck) said, ‘I’m going to get her to put the mask on’ and that wasn’t enough for them.”

It’s not anti- semitism to require a child to wear a mask. It was unfortunate that the child refused to cooperate, as 2 yr olds do, but it does not excuse her. The mother should have been aware of the rule. The mom should, perhaps, used a face shield on the child.
Until under an hour before the flight it said 2 and under DO NOT require a mask. Why should she check it during boarding? Who would think that they’d suddenly change that? Plus she tried but two year olds have their own mind

Babies should be allowed to be babies and if you are annoyed by them, god placed you in that seat to be annoyed.

When you claim antisemitism too often, you dilute real instances of discrimination. The flight attendant went about it wrong, but she likely just wanted all fliers in masks for safety.
How is it anti-semitism to ask someone coming from a COVID hotspot to respect the health of the people flying on the plane? If she can’t be a good enough parent to teach her kids to care about other people maybe she shouldn’t take her kids to Florida in the middle of a pandemic.
Isn’t everyone else on the plane wearing a mask? So how would a single two-year old without a mask endanger them? What if she were one month shy of being two? She would be safe, then? It’s just a stupid, arbitrary attempt to control people.

The airline is just following CDC guidelines which cares more about the control of diseases than what is convenient and practical.
Bottom line is that the airlines need to be more straight forward with their message and that is, their care for their employees is paramount and that people who can’t/won’t wear masks should drive and not fly.

The problem isn’t that the toddler needs to wear a mask, Bruck offered to have her kid wear it. Rather that the flight attendant wasn’t being reasonable as the new rule was under an hour old, therefore they had no right to say it was too late.

The whole incident is disgusting. I called JetBlue and logged a complaint. I told them I am a mom with kids, and the way this mom was treated is purely disgraceful. JetBlue policy before this incident indicated that 2 year olds who have a hard time wearing a mask don’t have to wear it. The Mother was showing proof with her phone to the agent that JetBlue’s guidlines was saying just that. Forty-four minutes after the incident Jetblue changed their mask wearing guidelines to Under 2 yrs old.

Im sorry to hear this but she was wrong to refuse to leave the plane. Regardless of those who came to her defense, the needs of the many out weight the needs of the few. IN the video, the mother is asking, “Should I tie her hands?” The majority of normal 2 year olds often do what they want. Not wearing a mask is not considered misbehaving!! I’m crying just reading what happened. It is incredibly nerve-wracking flying with children, especially without another pair of hands (for whatever the reason is). I can’t imagine the humiliation if I had been thrown off the plane because of a 2 year old refusing to wear a mask…have you never met a two-year old?!
