Dozens of participants took part in a moving and uplifting Hachnasas Sefer Torah ceremony held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, at the Chabad Center led by the Rebbe’s shluchim to the city and country, Rabbi Shimi and Chani Aziza.
The event was attended by the Sefer Torah’s donor, Mr. Moshe Schlisser, along with visiting shluchim, guests, and members of the local Jewish community.
The evening was hosted by Alon Chovav, a local Jewish resident originally from Israel who has lived in Dar es Salaam for many years and has been active in community life.
The guest of honor was Rabbi Eliezer Avtzon, founder and director of Global Jewish Assistance & Relief Network, who also represented Rabbi Shlomo Bentolila, the Rebbe’s Head Shliach to Central Africa.
The program opened with a festive reception, followed by the formal Hachnasas Sefer Torah ceremony, which included joyful dancing with the Sefer Torah. Participants later gathered for a seated program that featured a special recap video and a surprise highlight of the evening, an emotional performance by children that left a strong impression on those in attendance.
Community members said the event marked a meaningful milestone for Jewish life in Dar es Salaam, strengthening both communal spirit and connection to Torah.
