Rabbi Chaim Fogelman knows he might be biased, yet that does not stop him from declaring what he says is “one of Crown Heights’ best kept secrets.”
And that is Itchke’s Shtiebel, a local shul founded in 2008, where Fogelman serves as rabbi and spiritual leader.
“We are a great shul where everyone is welcome,” says Fogelman, who is also a rabbinical coordinator for the OK Labs, one of the largest kosher supervision companies in the country.
“We have 5 shiurim almost every week, we farbreng every Shabbos and there is a great sense of brotherly love. We are a place where the members are loving, caring and devoted to each other,” Fogelman said.
The board members of the shul are Pinny Bard-wigdor, Eli Hecht, Pacey Lipkind, Dovi Wachtel and Moishe Chanin.
Since its inception on Rosh Hashanah 5768, Itchke’s Shitebel has been a place where young and even older people have come to daven, learn, schmooze and of course, the Shabbos Kiddush.
“This has been the one place where I have always felt welcome,” commented one congregant.
During the High Holidays this past month, the Shtiebel has seen its participation grow and they decided to move from the Beis Chaya Mushka school and build off that success to relocate to a larger location.
They now found a home in the bustling and spacious basement of the Rubashkin residence at 1349 President Street which until recently was occupied by Chevra Ahavas Yisroel, another local shul.
This Shabbos, Parshas Noach, will be their first at the new location and members are very excited. “This move will accommodate a more inviting atmosphere and activities,” Pinny Bard-Wigdor told COLlive.com.
“The amount of space will be more than enough to have room for members, guests, and just about anyone else that decides to come and give the Shtiebel a try,” said Bard-Wigdor who is on the building committee with Lipkind, Ben Cousin and Greg Grinman (chairman).
In honor of the move, and as a Chanukas Habayis inauguration, they will be holding a Motzoei Shabbos Kumzitz, October 20 at 9 pm with Rabbi Fogelman, a veteran musician.
The event is open to the community and will include refreshments and L’chaims. Participants are encouraged to bring a musical instrument.

CAY is temporarily moving to Maple St Shul until the renovations on their new Shul are complete. A few weeks at most.
#17, u r incorrect. there is a shul in CH that didn’t have a msechitza or barrier of some sort of on simchas torah and the women began dancing among themselves. it was not a Chabad house with non frum people but a lubavitcher shul with lubavitcher people. I kid u not
CAY is moving to Maple St.??
Can soemone confirm
This is Crown Heights – are you forgetting that? This has to be mentioned – not a give in.
There are NO shuls in CH without a mechitza.
There are many events that people in CH go to that are not shul, that have men and women w/o a mechita (examples; chabad house events, fundraisers, upshernish, supermarket etc)
Since this is not davening, they felt it important to mention that
How come no one is mentioning the fact that the new location of Itche’kas Shul is now on the very same block where Itchk’e (Gansburg) lived and spread Yiddishkeit for many years?!
Just throwing it out there that they have a phenomenal Bal Koreh!!
Fantastic, I’ve davened there a mere handful of times and most say its had such a wonderful vibe, everyone was beyond friendly bit it was just to far for me, this is wonderful news!!!
Itchkes Shtiebel is Named after Reb Itchke Gansburg
why is it caled itche’s shul?
Unfortunately many shuls especially the newer and younger shuls are not so strict about this. Itchkes Shtiebel is a FRUM shul that doesn’t cut corners
I came to a ufruf there about a year ago and there was such a nice farbraingen there that I now go there all the time. It is a wonderfully shull
Where will the 200 families currently connected to the Maple St Shul daven now?
Will they all be incorporated into the Chevra Ahavas Yisroel Shul?
Or will they divide the premises of the Maple St Shul and use half for the regular mispalelim and the other half for the C.A.Y. people?
Is this going to be a good match?
Lets hope every one can contribute something and make it a kiddush Hashem.
Hatzlacha rabba, I came for Tishrei & it was beautiful. Now I would like to continue coming every Shabbos! Keep up the great work!
Men and Women (seperate seating)
Is that not a given??!!!
See ad for Itches Shteibel….
There is a women section every shaboss including Friday nights
Ahavas Yisroel is moving into the Maple st shule
Sounds wonderful! What ages are able to participate in the kids program?
so where is ahavas yisroel going????
Will there be a women’s section on a regular Shabbos?
