Israel’s Minister of Environmental Protection Idit Silman surprised her interviewer on Radio Kol Chai on Tuesday when she stated that she “feels like a Shlucha of the Rebbe in the government.”
Silman, a resident of Rechovot who is religious, addressed the many attempts and protests to create discord among the people of Israel during the current war.
“We, as leaders, as members of the government, and I personally as a minister, need to project unity among the people,” she said. “We do not fight against people; we fight against perceptions and ideology. I sat in the government and dismantled a government because that is what I believed in.”
Silman, 43, famously served as the coalition’s parliamentary whip in 2021. Her resignation led to the fall of Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid‘s rotating government and Benjamin Netanyahu‘s return to power.
The wife and mother of 3 children stated in the interview that in addition to her administrative tasks, her focus is to bring unity within the nation.
“I believe that I am a Shlucha of the Rebbe and really feel connected to the Rebbe,” she said. “Day by day, I see his statements and his concepts that we need to love every Jew; how true this is, especially after October 7th… We cannot return to the day before.
“We must love every Jew, even those who protest and demonstrate against us, and this is what the Rebbe taught us. We do not fight against people; we fight against perceptions,” she concluded.
