Israel officially inaugurated an embassy in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday as a result of the historic Abraham Accords peace deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates.
It was inaugurated by Israel’s new Foreign Minister Yair Lapid whose trip to the Gulf state is the first by an Israeli minister. He was joined by Emirati Culture and Youth Minister Noura Al Kaabi.
“Israel wants peace with all of its neighbors,” he stated in his remarks. “We aren’t going anywhere. The Middle East is our home and we’re here to stay, so we call on all countries in the region to recognize that and talk to us.”
Lapid acknowledged former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as “the architect of the Abraham Accords, who worked tirelessly to bring them about.” He also thanked former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden.
Kaabi stated: “In the wake of the Abraham Accords of last year… our two countries have witnessed incredible strides in the political, economic and cultural fields. The fruits of this cooperation are numerous.”
One example of that is the meals that were served to the Israeli delegation. They were all certified kosher by the United Arab Emirates Rabbi Levi Duchman, who is also a Chabad Shliach.
Rabbi Duchman helped Lapid install a Mezuzah on the door of the embassy and together recited a blessing. “Mazal Tov!” Rabbi Duchman told both ministers upon the landmark occasion.
