As a direct response to the pioneering call of the Rebbe to advance the welfare of Jews everywhere, not only physically but spiritually, Rabbi Meir Roness A”H dedicated his life for over 53 (Ga”n) years to ensure that the light of Chassidus shine everywhere possible.
Reb Meir A”H took the Rebbe’s message seriously, coordinating teachers, drivers, and learning material, traveling near and far to give classes and talks, and to organize study groups. While many of his friends joined in the effort, it would be hard to find someone who surpassed the good-heartedness and single-mindedness with which Roness dedicated himself to coordinating these efforts.
Late one Summer night in the 60’s, he was desperately looking for a ride from the Catskills to Brooklyn. The milk truck driver who happened to offer him a ride asked “where and why he was heading to Brooklyn at this crazy hour?”. Reb Meir simply replied that he was needed to arrange a Tanya shiur. The driver mentioned the episode to the secretary of Tza”Ch, the Lubavitch Youth Organization who in turn included this anecdote in his next report to the Rebbe. The Rebbe replied, “great is his merit (and more so) praiseworthy is his lot”.
Reb Meir’s commitment knew no bounds as he very creatively made sure that anyone and everyone who so desired would have the ability to access the vital light of the inner dimension of Torah, Chassidus.
