U.S. Congressman Tom Suozzi, a Democrat who is running for the Governor of New York, visited Crown Heights Thursday.
The Congressman first met with Crown Heights leadership at the offices of National Committee for the Furtherance of Jewish Education.
During the meeting, organized by Rabbi Yaacov Behrman in conjunction with Crown Heights United, Suozzi spoke about his long-standing relationship with the Jewish community.
Peppering his remarks with Hebrew and Yiddish phrases, Suozzi mentioned his longtime friend Rabbi Tuvia Teldon, Shliach in Long Island.
Suozzi said that if he wins or loses, “it’s all Bashert.”
The visit was notable, as Crown Heights was the first Chassidic community to endorse Eric Adams for Mayor, garnering him some 4,500 votes.
Referencing the power of the Crown Heights vote, Suozzi noted that, “I am not asking you to endorse a winner, I am asking you to make a winner.”
Rabbi Shea Hecht, Chairman of NCFJE, announced that he is the first Jewish community leader to officially endorse Suozzi.
Suozzi said that he plans to be tough on crime, and also says he will not be interfering in the Yeshiva education system, which he says, “works very well.”
After the meeting, Suozzi visited the Rebbe’s Libary at 770 Eastern Parkway receiving a tour from Rabbi Sholom Ber Levine, and the WLCC Offices with Rabbi Chaim Baruch Halberstam and Rabbi Mendel Eisenbach.
Crown Heights United has yet to endorse a candidate in the Governor’s race.
Crown Heights United released a statement following the meeting:
“Tom was impressive, and has a serious track record of leadership and experience in government. Crown Heights United has not yet endorsed a candidate in the race for Governor. We will continue to meet with candidates as we get closer to election day, and are committed to consulting and working with local Mosdos and Askonim before making an endorsement. Our hope is that we can all come to an agreement as a community and throw our support behind one candidate.”

So nice that you know Yiddish & Hebrew
The average Crown Heights family concern right now is
Vaccine Mandates for children and safe streets.
This is not a pro or anti vax – we want to make our own choices for our families
And make a limit to how much landlords charge for rent and how lower taxes for landlords and homeowners too
Stop advocating for democrats
Lee zeldin is the only republican that can win and not destroy republican values
After the politician advecated for adams by the actual election not just the primary and now he said he is continuing the mandates
I do not trust ch politicians
Advocate what most of crown heights wants not you want
Gulianni will not win plus i do not believe he will better than zeldin
He is using his father as a pawn
He’s not following indoor mask mandate of New York State. Interesting
NY Congressman, veteran and proud Jew Lee Zeldin for governor!
For the past 30 years that we are shluchim on long island he’s consistently been a good friend of the shluchim in many ways, including when he had to put himself out and take a stand that wasn’t popular in his party or in Washington
The first Orthodox community to endorse Adams was actually Far Rockaway.
Adams has acknowledged this publicly a number of times and said that’s when the dominoes started to fall his way.
We will probably be the first to formally endorse Zeldin as well.
Please stop following the so called “CH leaders” who push the community into voting for these liberal progressive demoncrat candidates. This community is fed up with the absolute over reach of covid mandates and priority #1 for most will be the candidate who commits to null and void all of these asinine mandates.
