What an enjoyable 3rd night of Chanukah it was in Surrey, BC.
After an inspirational Menorah Lighting with Rabbi Falik Schtroks, and a delicious dairy and latke dinner, those who attended this event at the Center For Judaism-Chabad in White Rock/Surrey BC participated in a most exciting 3rd Iron Chef Chanukah.
Iron Chef Marat Dreyshner handled the competition with his usual smile and equanimity together with his capable sous chefs and baker Ella Dreyshner, Rabbi Nuta Yisroel Shurack and Debbie Cossever.
Competing for this year’s title was award winning Pizza Chef Aaron Gehrman and Culinary expert Rae Friedlander Sank who worked seamlessly with sous chefs Nissim Gluck and Avraham Nissan Zabylichinski.
Host and director of Iron Chef Chanukah, Simie Schtroks, says that although this year was the fiercest competition yet, there was an energized and fun atmosphere in the Iron Chef Kitchen.
Many in the audience tried to assist the teams with small tasks or by keeping them entertained with Chanukah songs. Ethan Dreyshner helped Simie as 2nd MC and interviewer. Mariasha Schtroks created detailed and fair rating sheets for the judges.
While prizes were earned by all participants, the winning team and their friends will be treated to a 5 course gourmet catered by Mrs. Simie Schtroks. Scores were so close that you will have to attend next year’s Iron Chef to find out which team won.

Its amazing to see the effort, enthusiasm and sacrifice that Rebbetzin Simie Schtroks puts forth not only at these events, but each and every day for the Jewish Community in Surrey, BC. In my world travels, this has far been the warmest and truest Chabbad House I have ever seen. Rebbetzin Simie Schtroks in not only an “ezer kenegdo” for Rabbi Schtroks, but i also an “ever kenegdaynu” for all us Jews in Surrey, BC.
