Israel’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Alon Schuster visited the Chassidic village of Kfar Chabad this week, after being postponed because of the pandemic.
Schuster, a member of the Blue and White centrist and liberal political alliance, was given a tour of the replica of 770 and the communal center for youth.
He was welcomed by Head of the Sedot Dan Regional Council Chairman David Yifrach and Kfar Chabad officials R’ Shimon Rabinovich and R’ Menachem Lerer, along with the journalist Mendi Rizel.
Schuster, who was born in kibbutz Mefalsim, was especially impressed by the history of Kfar Chabad as a Chassidic agricultural village and met with R’ Nochum Luria at his large esrogim orchard.
When asked to put on Tefillin, Schuster agreed and took a few moments to recite a personal prayer to Hashem.
He has what to be thankful for. Schuster, married and a father of 4, served in the Nahal Brigade of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). He lost his sight in one eye in 1981 after being wounded during preparations for the 1982 Lebanon War.
He committed to assisting Kfar Chabad and thanked his hosts for the enlightening tour and the opportunity to do a Mitzvah.
