Early Sunday morning, the IDF announced the deaths of two soldiers killed during fighting in the Gaza Strip over Shabbos.
Sergeant Binyamin Meir Airly, 21 years old, from Beit Shemesh, a fighter in the 101st Battalion, Parachute Brigade. His parents made aliyah from the US in 2006.
Captain (res.) Roey Biber, 28 years old, from Tzur Moshe, a team commander in the Yehlam unit, Combat Engineering Corps.
The IDF also said a paratrooper was seriously injured in battle in northern Gaza.
The IDF spokesperson early Sunday afternoon announced the death of three IDF reserve soldiers who fell in the intense battles that took place in the northern Gaza Strip on Shabbos.
The soldiers were identified as Master Sgt. (res.) Yakir Biton, 34, from Jerusalem.
Sgt. Maj. (res.) Rani Tahan, 40, from Sdei Nechemia.
Maj. (res.) Chen Yahalom, 35, from Kfar Azar.
Triathlete Major Chen Yahalom received a 24-hour leave from operational activity on the northern border and was killed in a cycling accident. Major (res.) Chen Yahalom was very well known in the Israeli triathlon community, of which he was a member for over 15 years and participated in many competitions.
