Early Wednesday morning Hurricane Sally brought vast devastation upon the Pensacola, Florida area and caused untold difficulty to the residents of the region.
The Chabad Center of Pensacola, led by Shluchim Rabbi Mendel and Nechama Danow, has been hit with flood damage. They are also without power, on the day before Rosh Hashana.
“Jewish tradition teaches us to rebuild in the face of adversity, to rededicate ourselves to our community despite difficult challenges. Our obligation is to help one another, to reach out to our neighbor with love, care and compassion,” Rabbi Danow said.
“For two years Chabad of Pensacola has served the Jewish community of Pensacola with outreach, education and social service. Our center impacts all segments of the community. Now in the aftermath of this terrible event we have committed ourselves to this mission more than ever. Now is the time we must reach out to all in need.
“Our distribution center is preparing to help people who need water, food, generators and basic needs. Our volunteers will be helping many with the overwhelming tasks of cleaning and restoration.”
All this happening two days before Rosh Hashana and the high holidays which makes it all the more important to get life up and running.
