On Sunday evening, the East Flatbush Lubavitch community hosted a beautiful event to mark the groundbreaking of their new shul and men’s mikvah. The milestone was celebrated with hundreds of people, including local residents and guests from Crown Heights.
Thanks to the NYPD, the streets were blocked off to create a family-friendly atmosphere, allowing community members to enjoy a grand barbecue. The afternoon also offered a range of activities for children, such as face painting, arts and crafts, and moon bounces.
The groundbreaking is an exciting and defining moment for the families of Lubavitch East Flatbush, as it marks a critical step toward securing the future of their neighborhood.
Rabbi Dovid Fischer, a big Ba’al Tzedakah, friend, and partner of Lubavitch East Flatbush, was honored to lead the groundbreaking ceremony, representing the official start of construction and initial building phase of the shul and mikvah. Rabbi Fischer spoke about expanding the Rebbe’s shchuna and how touching it was for him to take part in it.
Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Holtzman, Rav of the community, was the event’s MC. After calling upon Rabbi Mendy Drookman, board member and gabbai of the shul, to blow shofar, he spoke passionately about the future of East Flatbush and the significance of the evening’s milestone.
770 mashpia, Rabbi Shloimy Zarchi, led the Rebbe’s kapitel, and his colleague, Rabbi Gedalya Bluming, read Perek Chof in merit of his son’s complete refuah. The community continues to storm the heavens for Menachem Mendel ben Nechama Dina, Rabbi Bluming’s son, who is a proud member of Lubavitch East Flatbush.
Rabbi Shaya Zalmanov, resident of the community, read the Rebbe’s letter about “Hanochas Even HaPina” and the significance of a building’s foundation.
The event was arranged by the following members of the Vaad Ha’Binyan:
Rabbi Menachem Engel
Rabbi Chaim Friedman
Rabbi Levi Rabin
Rabbi Mendy Drookman
Rabbi Maychee Sherr
Rabbi Mendel Chayton
Rabbi Rafi Chayo
Rabbi Yoni Sarue
Rabbi Zalman Bryski
Rabbi Yehoshua Rivkin
The community also launched a building campaign to support the ongoing construction efforts! In under a decade, East Flatbush has experienced remarkable growth, evolving into a thriving and vibrant neighborhood. With 80+ Lubavitcher families, the area is home to mechanchim, shluchim, and ambassadors of the mosdos, all deeply committed to the Rebbe’s initiatives and the chinuch of the next generation.
The future of East Flatbush is not just the responsibility of the residents; it’s a shared commitment of the entire Crown Heights community, who greatly benefit from the mosdos and educators residing there.
