A sit down of chaplains serving hospitals and nursing homes in Brooklyn was described as a first after they met on March 1 at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center.
Perhaps for the first time, chaplains of all religious faiths have met for a constructive discussion on how to work together to facilitate better spiritual care in healthcare facilities.
This meeting was of special importance to the Jewish Community because of the many Jewish patients at long-term nursing homes which are Christian or non-Jewish institutions, where they lack basic Yiddishkeit.
The Vaad Harabonim DiBotai Refuah, The Central Committee of Rabbinic Chaplains, under the Leadership of Rabbi Avraham Friedlander, together with Rabbi Kasriel Kastel of Lubavitch Youth Organization, offered to help provide chaplaincy visits to our Jewish brethren in these institutions.
“This is the first step of helping Jewish patients who are lost in the healthcare system, retain their connection with Yiddishkeit,” said Rabbi Michoel Chazan, Director Of Chaplaincy at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center.
This is the best mitzvah in the world!
