Academy Award-winning actor Jon Voight paid a visit to the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s Ohel in Queens on Wednesday and prayed for the wellbeing of the people of Israel, currently under attack.
Voight spent the day visiting the Chabad Headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights and then headed out to Queens for the special visit.
During the visit, Voight brought a DVD of the new “Friends of Chabad” television show to the Rebbe’s room in 770.
The TV series, which showcases Chabad and is hosted by Voight, features Hollywood mogul Steve Paul and brothers Rabbis Chaim Nochum and Levi Cunin. The show features extensive interviews with Shluchim around the world, including Rabbi Shalom Ber Lipskar of Bal Harbor, Rabbi Danny Cohen of Hebron, Israel, Rivkah Slonim of Binghamton, NY, Shachar Banon of Venice, Italy and Rabbi Yehuda Tiechtal of Berlin, Germany.
The “Friends of Chabad” DVD, featuring the first 10 episodes of the show, has recently become available at more than 5,000 Walmart superstores across the United States.
At 770, Voight spent a few moments in prayer in the Rebbe’s room and was given a tour of the Rebbe’s Library by the Director, Rabbi Shalom Ber Levine, as well as the WLCC offices, with Director Rabbi Chaim Boruch Halberstam.
Voight was accompanied by Menachem Cunin, who explained to Voight the significance and holiness of visiting the Ohel of the Rebbe. With the safety and security of Israel’s citizens foremost on everyone’s minds, Voight was shocked when Menachem Cunin showed him his “kapitel” of Tehillim corresponding to his age for this year, chapter 83.
“By Hashgocha Protis, the entire kapitel is about the safety of the land of Israel, and how Hashem protects the land of Israel. Jon was moved to tears,” Cunin said.
Voight then wrote a Pan note which he placed at the Rebbe’s Ohel and then spent some time engrossed in prayer. He also watched a video of the Rebbe speaking, and spoke with Rabbi Abba Refson, Director of the Ohel Chabad Lubavitch.
“All that’s on my mind today is what’s happening in Israel,” Voight said. “I am praying that this situation comes to a close safely and properly for the state of Israel. That’s what was in my mind and heart when I spoke to the Rebbe,” he said.
Voight said that he is aware of the Rebbe’s stance on Israel and on the creation of Gaza. “I know that G-d is protecting Israel,” he said.
