The Beit Levi Yitzchak Congregation in the Belgrano neighborhood of Buenos Aires has a single Torah scroll in its synagogue.
That Torah Sefer is miraculous.
It was rescued from the Holocaust and was smuggled into Buenos Aires decades ago. Its owner, Mr. Rafael Levy obm, gifted it over 10 years ago to the director of Beit Levi Yitzchak, Rabbi Avraham Levy, for use in the Shul.
Given that the Torah originated in a Shul in Poland and is around 100 years old, the passage of time has left the Torah will increasing wear and damage, despited constant maintenance.
With continued use, it is estimated that it will no longer be Kosher for use in just a few months.
This determination was made by three Sofrim of the Kehilla of Buenos Aires: Moshé Dahan, Mendy Yanklewicz and Yosef Steinmetz.
The refurbishing of this special miracle Torah will be a costly endeavor, and the community is raising funds to make it possible.
It says in the Gemara that whoever helps to buy this Torah scroll is considered to have written it.
Today, Tuesday, Dec. 1 and Wednesday, Dec. 2, a fundraising campaign is being held to assist the community in paying to save their only Torah scroll.
All donations, large and small, are welcome, donate a letter, word, or a Parsha.
